It simultaneously puts minimal resistance to the water during swimming. The sensor measures and stores heart rate information while underwater, providing real-time heart rate information when resting and surfacing, which is displayed on the screen of a compatible watch. The sensor uses a user-replaceable CR2032 battery. Battery life is up to 18 months with regular training 3 hours per week. The sensor is capable of measuring heart rate underwater and records it in its memory.
The moment the athlete comes out of the water, the sensor transfers the readings to a compatible sports watch. The sensor is capable of recording up to 20 hours of training during a swim.Garmin HRM SWIMGarmin HRM Swim is designed for swimming in the pool. The sensor is able to measure heart rate and function like regular heart rate sensors on dry land, but its use for casual activities is not as convenient due to the price and materials used.
The sensor belt is slightly wider compared to conventional chest belts and the inside of the belt is made of non-slip material. This is so that the belt stays in place while swimming in the pool, even during bounces off the pool wall.
The chest belt will slide off the chest and stay hanging around the waist during (even milder) bounces off the pool wall.
Wearing the HRM Swim belt is less comfortable compared to a regular belt. Even when putting the belt on, you need to place the belt electronics on the centre of the chest, as the non-slip finish makes it difficult to later move the belt to the correct position on the chest.
While a conventional chest belt slides and can be fastened first in front of the eyes and then slid/rotated into position, the HRM Swim holds in place and sliding it on the chest is quite uncomfortable.
Another difference from commonly used belts is that the HRM Swim sensor belt is not very elastic. There is only a small eleastic part along the length that tightens the belt on the body. This part is interchangeable and three elastic parts of different lengths are available in the package.
It is by using these interchangeable parts that the belt can be shortened or lengthened to accommodate the smaller/larger chest circumference of the wearer.
On the blue part, the belt has one extra buckle, which can be used to shorten/lengthen the non-elastic part. The length range and custom adjustment is comfortable and I think will suit the vast majority of athletes.
Custom functioning, heart rate measurement during swimming The sensors themselves are used in the same way as regular chest belts. When the sporttester is switched on, they pair and display the current heart rate on the watch display.
The heart rate is available on the display until the belt is submerged in water. During swimming (underwater), the display does not show the heart rate. If you swim and surface from the water in shallow water with the watch and chest sensor, the display will immediately begin to show the current heart rate. When the recording is complete, the display will say that the watch is trying to locate and download heart rate records from the connected HRM Swim or HRM Tri sensor.
If you are on land, this will take place within seconds. If you were in the water during the save (and the sensor was submerged), you would need to put the watch and the electronics on the sensor in close proximity.
Then the watch will download data from the sensor even underwater. Once the watch has downloaded the data, a normal activity save occurs and the activity information is available in the watch history or in even more detail in the Garmin Connect log on your mobile phone or computer.Compatible with Forerunner 920XT, Forerunner 735XT, fenix3 and epix.
