Another new take on something simple - unique stainless steel springs have been designed with variable length adjustment. This gives the diver more comfort with the ability to easily remove the fin iodinally. Yet the springs are resistant to deformation caused by overstretching. Springs are supplied with the Splitfin "Smoke on the Water" model and optional for all Atomic SpitFin fins.
Why do SplitFins swim stronger with less air consumption? Everyone takes a cue from fish tail fins - except we can't keep up with them underwater because our traditional fins don't transfer the work they put out into the water. Using hard, flat fins leads to leg strain and fatigue. Because the water puts a lot of resistance on traditional flat fins, the diver feels like he is moving fast. However, underwater speed measuring equipment has shown that in reality these divers move relatively slowly. SplitFins transmit more power with less drag and reduce effort. The reduction in effort and power required to kick is reflected in higher speed with longer endurance, power and comfort. Independent tests also confirm that the SplitFin design significantly reduces air consumption.
SplitFin fins come in many variations, differing in shape, size and stiffness. They contribute significantly to overall comfort and performance. Fins with short, soft blades "kick" more easily than longer, stiffer ones, but they also require many more kicks to swim a specific distance. Stiffer blades, on the other hand, require more effort to "kick" comfortably. Atomic SplitFins are designed to optimize all of these variables. Their kick is lightweight, with a powerful and efficient stroke that allows you to achieve high speeds while maintaining a comfortable, low-frequency kick style.
Don't be intimidated by how easy it is to kick with SplitFins. That's the way it's supposed to be. Swim faster now than you did with your old fins. Although SplitFins work with a variety of kick styles, it's debré to get used to a shear kick with higher frfrency and less range to get maximum performance. The lower range frequency shear kick also "hides" your feet in the streamline so you only create drag in the water with the surface of your head, shoulders and bottle when swimming. Remember, less drag means more speed and less effort.
